Drowning in Distraction

I was not using social media for a period of 2 years. During that time, I read the most books I ever have. I wonder if there's a correlation. Now that I've been using social media again, I can honestly say the reward is not worth the investment. The time we spend on social media is mostly useless.

Some may say it is very useful because of all the things they learn. But deep down, they know in their hearts it's bullshit. They could have gotten the information anywhere with a smaller price of time and attention, and the information is mostly surface-level slop.

But it's not all your fault. These products are addictive. If you have ever watched any documentaries on these topics, you would see these people talk about these apps like they are drugs. Their entire goal is to make you spend more time on their platform. They suck out your time and attention while giving the image of productivity.

It's always one of the seven deadly sins or a combination: Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, Lust. Next time you scroll through social media, observe which category the content you are consuming falls into.

Most of you reading this already know this but you don't seem to be doing anything about it. The product is that addictive.

"If you are not paying for the product, then you are the product."
